Welcome to Sun Face Moon

Here are some couplets and gathas for you to contemplate.

Some are a reminder of things forgotten, and some reveal the plainly hidden. Some explore the realm of the physical, and some explore the realm of the mind. Some intermix and entwine — with all things of the world, and some release old fetters that stubbornly bind. Some are lost smiles and the joy that they bring. Some are old tears that can finally dry. Some are your friends, and some are not your enemies — but long-lost sisters and long-lost brothers.

They are these, and they are so much more... a mirror of the mind, a brightening of the eyes. A hearing of words, a transcending of time. A song of the birds and a whisper of the wind. Nature’s embrace and a witnessing of change. They are a pairing of lines, some syllables of sound — a formation of words to bring happiness around.

Enjoy them at your leisure, and share them with your family and friends.

Best wishes,

Luan V Dinh – interbeing

Please note that I will not be sharing the meaning of these couplets and gathas as everyone will have their own way of seeing them - that may be more beautiful, profound than how I see them. Also each user will relate to these couplets in a way that is personally relevant to them.

How to use these couplets / gathas?
These are only suggestions and are not exhaustive.

1/ Smaller Gallery suggestion:

Look through the whole of Gallery A or gallery B image by image (reading aloud if you would like) dwelling on the contemplations you like before moving on. A few couplets/gathas will call out to you because they relate to you. If you like, you can write these down or save them on your device for contemplation this week (or at a later date).

If you had more time in the week or like the smaller gallery format, you can also check out Gallery B. Gallery A and B come from the same collection so should be of similar quality.

2/ Larger Gallery suggestion:

Look through This Week’s Gallery once a week. Last Week’s Gallery is also available on the same page for your contemplation or comparison. Again if you like, you can write down or download the couplets / gathas that speak most to you.

3/ Your own mini-gallery selection suggestion:

Look at This Week’s Gallery and download 4, 8, 12 of your own favourite gathas to contemplate or practice with in the week. I would still advise that you read a Gallery of 24 couplets/gathas to give a balanced diet for contemplation. You will also gain a better feel for the breadth and depth of this collection.

4/ Deeper Practice:

Write down or print out a few gathas that you would like to contemplate or you think can help you in certain life-situations. Use them when you have time to contemplate or meditate on them or bring them out or recall them when you are in need of them to assist in a situation or a part of your mindful practices.

5/ Any other way is also fine.
Use them as you want.

Below are links for recent gathas. They are provided for extra information if you are interested in finding out more about some of the subjects raised

The Mindful Breathing Club is a project linked to my collection of couplets and gathas. If you enjoy these couplets and gathas and enjoy the Mindfulness Challenge in the section below, then you may be interested in joining the Mindful Breathing Club to share your practice of the Mindfulness Challenge and what level you have been practicing at. To find out more click on the Mindfulness Challenge or the button below (to be updated soon)

If you can take ten mindful breaths —

You have opened the door of stopping.

You have given yourself an opportunity —

An opportunity to stop running.

If you can take twenty more mindful breaths —

You have taken your foot off —

The accelerator of non-stop thinking —

The train of endless worrying.

If you can take another thirty mindful breaths —

You have entered the realm of joyful rest.

The realm of relaxing your mind —

A great badge of mindful breathing.

If you can take a third set of thirty breaths —

I will call you a skilled meditator.

You will rise refreshed and calm —

Seeing the world with greater clarity.

Here I will outline 10 things I would like to say about Mindfulness: To follow

Meaning of Interbeing: “Everything relies on everything else in the cosmos in order to manifest - whether a star, a cloud, a flower, a tree, or you and me.” — Thich Nhat Hanh

For the quickest way to better understand what the word "interbeing" means, please listen to Thich Nhat Hanh's explanation on Youtube:

I have a dedicated page in fact a dedicated website called weinterare.com that explores interbeing.

Here are my "Verses on interbeing" from that page which may also be helpful for you to understand better the meaning of the word:

Verses on Interbeing:

Interbeing means we are together —
We have never truly been apart.
For we are deeply connected —
Our life pulses with all other life.

Interbeing means we are family —
We are related to everything.
We are sisters and brothers —
We are from the same one family.

Interbeing means we can see clearly —
Every action flows on in transformation.
Death is just a conventional marker —
All things continue in everything..

Interbeing means walls are illusions —
Walls of the mind and walls of society.
Although they populate our world —
They are actually artificial.

Interbeing means we can walk freely —
Understanding our habit of discriminating.
From parents, friends and society —
And from our own past suffering.

Interbeing means we take responsibility —
For our actions can affect everyone.
We flow together in helpful harmony —
We feel love for this amazing planet.

Interbeing means we dwell in love —
We see kindness and love as our own.
We share and receive gratefully —
Help all people in our community.

Interbeing means we stop running —
We dwell in a river most amazing.
We are connected to everything —
We abide in peace and harmony.

Sun Face Moonhas a sister website called weinterare.com that I created a number of years ago. It is my big exploration of many themes but the main theme is interbeing - the interconnecting nature of all things.  My website weinteare.com focuses on interbeing and my collection of  short and long poems on various topics.

Sun Face Moon is my webpage dedicated to my shorter forms: There are currently 2-line couplets & gathas for contemplation and in the future there may be shorter standalone verses (up to 8 lines) shared here.

I have 5 projects that I am working on:

🔹 Sun Face Moon (this website) for couplets, gathas and short pieces of work up to 8 lines.

🔹 We Inter-are (sister website) dedicated to interbeing and long and short poems on various themes.

🔹 Visual Galleries: I will be creating visual galleries of my couplet and gathas using nature photography (from others or myself). In the meantime please enjoy my friend's visual couplets and gathas that she has kindly created for me. I am hoping other artists who develop a long-term liking for my couplets / gathas will be inspired to create similar galleries but please contact me first.

🔹 Finding ways to translate these couplets and gathas.

🔹 Writing project: short verses and more short poems.
